Gaby’s blog regularly offers useful insights about a wide variety of subjects, current issues of interest in the area of puppy training and how to create a life of balance for our pets. My name is Dr. Gabriella Richman PhD, and I am the founder of the web platform, DogAndCactus and its puppy training program: PinkPups. I absolutely love nature, animals (especially dogs), plants and people. I had always had pets from a very young age. Except for the last few years, I never attended a dog training facility, and I used to be very shy about not having “formal” dog training experience either as an attendee or as a trainer.
Over three years ago Vincent the Wizard, the Parson Russel Terrier lad chose me to be his owner. A year and a half ago an adorable Beagle girl joined our team. The journey we embarked on, the experience we had in formal training facilities in the last three years, and most importantly, the dog trainer training program of which we have been proud students made us realize that keeping away from “formal” dog training facilities in the past actually worked to our benefit. It is common knowledge that the dog training landscape has changed a lot. In fact, there are exceptionally good dog training programs available and there are a few absolutely fantastic dog trainers, now.
Twenty something years ago when I started my professional life as an economist I represented a rather rational view on things. I worked with figures, charts, graphs and so on. It didn’t take me long to realize that things only work with the right people. From that moment on, motivation, the nature and use of reinforcement, team cohesion, the creation of something new became the focus of my attention altering my attitude to work, and towards my team of people and animals. I love the idea to apply positive reinforcement tools in both human and animal training, in particular in dog training. Appropriate use of reinforcement, favouring positive response in any kind of interaction is a magical tool. And it is exceptionally effective in puppy training.
Nature and plants, specifically nurturing cacti and other succulents have major role in my relaxation protocol, and I am sure that many of us feel that way. So, that is our story and how the idea came to me to create a web platform offering information, products, and services which don’t resembles the usual product and service bundling routine. I can assure You, Dear Visitor, that the connection is there. And I promise You that Gaby’s Blog remains the source of juicy topics for a good old chat, or as I like to phrase it: for effectively reinforcing interaction.

The PinkPups Program is built upon the very core of motivation: joyful learning and having fun. As far as puppy training goes I believe in individual training as early as possible, and the foundation work should focus on the owner of the puppy. I also believe that the best way to support the proud puppy owners and make puppy training an enjoyable and progressive experience is to help the owners develop the habit of “puppy watch”. Knowing how important “puppy watch” is, and intentionally doing “puppy watch” makes the trainin a whole lot more effective. Not to mention that “watching the environment” is actually what our beloved pets do best. They are constantly watching us, getting to know us. Puppies are ready to learn, so the only thing we need to do is to get ready to learn from them.

Years of experience was put into the creation of the pet toy collection featured in the Pet Toy Gallery. All toys are assigned to one category, and each category is named after a type of animal. Also, customized toys can be ordered for individual needs such as training with multiple dogs, or the need of special training equipment for a person with disability.
